Modus on Heddon Street in London is not just your average PR
firm. Their clients range from both British and International brands and
talent. They include luxury brands such as Akris and Bally to high street
stores such as Uniqlo. And deal with
nearly 50,000 samples a year and with collections of brands like Calvin Klein
that just have a single piece in each style that travels around the world! From
London College of Style we were lucky enough and had the opportunity to visit
them and learn a great deal about the company. We meet with Liz Roscoe, junior
account director; Devian Wedderburn and Katie Crawford who were both senior
account managers as well as Thanos Kotsanitis, the showroom manager. He gave us the company’s background and great
motivation and advice.
Being there as an aspiring stylist, it was great to get
first hand knowledge of how these client relationship function and how
important they are. Being a stylist is
not just about the money it’s also about making the other person (the client) happy
and by creating a strong relationship and reputation with firm such as Modus
will that be accomplished more successfully. The best advice that Thanos gave
us was to be confident with who we are and what we do and only then will
success follow. Too often do we forget to remind ourselves that. All of them like you and I would have had to
start from the ground up and their hard work and passion are what has taken
them where they are. In order to become a successful stylist they gave us some
important and useful suggestions. One was to start with a fashion retail job
because that helps you understand how the fashion scene works. If not for that
assisting or shadowing a stylist is a great way to learn and get a good idea of
what the job will entail. There really is no better way to learn than to start
from basics! This visit definitely confirmed that. So patience and a lot of hard work, putting
yourself out there and networking is definitely the way to go.
